Eat Too Many Nuts and Seeds and This Can Happen

Unbalances Omega-6 & Omega-3 Levels

To be fair, most of us already have unbalanced omega 3 to omega 6 values. The latter is found in edible oils, processed foods and yes, nuts and seeds. The former also occurs in nuts and seeds as well as in many fish species. Both omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids are classified as essential fatty acids. This means that they are not naturally produced by our body and must be absorbed through our diet.

However, to make the most of it, we need much less omega-6 than omega-3. Unfortunately, the typical American diet contains 10 to 25 times the required amount of omega-6. This can block the intake of omega-3 fatty acids, raise blood pressure, promote life-threatening blood clots, and cause the body to retain water. Omega-3 fatty acids are also known to be anti-inflammatory, which can help prevent disease, while omega-6 fatty acids are anti-inflammatory and create an ideal environment for disease to flourish.
